I just finished the 20 mile run, plus a mile cool down with my kids for a total of 21. I am wiped out. WIPED out. After this I'm going to stand in that pool for a good 15 minutes and then do my best to not fall asleep so I can spend time with my family. They are so understanding about my running addiction. :)
My training schedule called for a "fast finish" which means I run at least the last 15 minutes at Tempo pace (about 20 seconds slower than my 10K race pace). Here's how the run panned out:
First 4 miles in 36:20/ 9:05 pace
2nd 4 miles in 35:05/ 8:46 pace
3rd 4 miles in 35:20/ 8:50 pace
4th 4 miles in 33:45/ 8:26 pace
Last 4 miles in 29:58/ 7:29 pace
Finish time: 2:50.28/ avg pace of 8:31
It was so difficult today. My mind was very negative. I was so wrapped up in negative thoughts that I rolled my left ankle badly during the 8th mile. I yelped so loudly in pain that I scared myself! I contemplated quitting and almost went into a downward spiral thinking, "F Boston. I'm going to suck there anyway. Screw this." But instead I asked God for help. I walked around for a minute and asked for God's will to be done. I gave it over to him, and it must've worked. I proceeded to run the rest of it, praying A LOT. My body just took over, and I let my mind kind of go blank with the exception of an occasional, "Please God, let me do what you want me to." I also thought of my friends who run and their spirits lifted me up. So all in all, a run literally sent from Heaven. I couldn't have done it without God's good grace. Call me old fashioned, but I really believe that.

What a run!!!!!!!! and what a finish!!! Now it is almost time to taper. Eat, rehydrate, and relish in your fine work.
Oh, both myself and Meghan Arbogast PR'd at boston in 2001. (she was an elite athlete just like she will be this year.) It can be done. Meghan was 8th last year at Western States 100 in her first 100. She just got second at Way too cool 50k today, one of the most competative 50k's in the country.
My point is, that is some awesome training!!! You are ready. Now just some maintance miles to top it off and you will SMOKE Boston.
Great finish today!!! That is flyin' !!!

Isn't i amazing how God hears our prayer in the midst of the battle that's going on in our mind? I believe you not only had a victory on your run but a victory as well against the enemy of our soul as you overcame those negative thoughts he sowe in your mind. Great Job! Remember to thank HIM everyday and especially tomorrow at church!
What awesome times. You will kick Boston's butt!
that is phenomenal! those numbers are astounding! way to go!
I'm glad you didn't give up. You're an inspiration.
Wow! You are an inspiration! :)
You finished it and you made the last 4 miles at tempo pace. That really demonstrates your inner strength.
When you go through one of those difficult periods during your race, you can remember this training run and how you were able to overcome and finish strong.
You are going to do awesome in Boston!!! I very often look to God for my strength during a run...actually during every run. I may have some tough runs but I ALWAYS get the strength when really needed. Amazing how he hears us...always!! Great post and great run. SOrry to hear about the ankle. I hope it is ok now.
Thanks so much for inspiring me and motivating me even more! I really appreciate it. I hope to feel your good vibes when I'm running from Hopkinton to Boston!
