THIS couldn't have come at a better time. As you know by my last entry, I've been feeling sorry for myself. After the NY Giants won the playoffs in an incredible game against the Packers, my spirits were lifted a bit (I like rooting for the least favorite). But I digress.
I stumbled upon Ryan Hall's first blog for TheFinalSprint and it was so uplifting. He reminded me of my faith and that through the Lord I will always 'get up.' I will always be lifted through Him. So thanks Ryan Hall!
Anyway my two running partners got in touch with me lastnight and realized that I was having an "injured" moment and just feeling down on myself. They were so nice, they kept reassuring me that I am always welcome to run with them, no matter what pace I go, and that I never finish too far behind them. I guess when I'm out there at 5 a.m. it just feels like I'm way behind! But they're right, I'm usually within 10seconds and always within earshot and sight. I just have to rehab my minor injuries a bit and I'll be back to running with them.
DawnB also had such encouraging words. I loved it when she said, "It's always better to trail behind than not trail at all." So true! Thanks Dawn. :)
Well I enjoyed the day off of running today. Went to church, gave the dog a bath, gave the toddler a bath, watched the football games. I also made the decision to run a 50K a month after Boston. It will either be the Ohlone 50K or the Quicksilver 50K. My friend from highschool, Danny, will be running his 4th Ohlone this year. Knowing someone on the trail is almost enough to inspire me to pick that one. But I hear the Quicksilver 50K is a tiny bit easier...so I dunno. Either way, I'm doing one and I can't wait!!!

Hi GB,
Just thought I'd give you a quick "hello" GB. I'd try not to worry about being behind when you run with the running group. Don't sell yourself short. You're doing great and sometimes we just go through these stretches. I went through one like you last week. I do 95% of my running alone (usually in the cold and dark at 5:30 am) and live in a foreign country so I know that this can lead to some doubt and questions. Just stay positive and these negative thoughts we sometimes get will pass. {Note: not sure if any of that makes sense but just trying to give you some encouragement after reading your last couple of posts). Have a good day Silly Lillie!
Gregory (Pudov)
Thank you GB that really means alot coming from you!!
Hi Lillie....tww here....not sure if I am doing this right...so let me know if my comment came through....as far as speedwork....with my amount of miles...I just play it by ear as to how I feel.....the last two days....felt like doing some speed during my 11 milers....several sub7 and a sub6 mile in each run.....I stick to farltlek and tempo mostly.....the route I took the last two days aalso go to the base of our mountains.....700 foot elevation gain in the first 5 miles....so I get hill work in the first half and speed in the second.....you know me...play it fast and loose...no plan.
You may get this twice....no idea what I am doing when replying....lol.
As someone who has become a recent fan of your blog here, it is amazing how much positive energy you do have. In your 'Little Sad' post, you were pretty down, but I will tell you that happens to anyonw who is competitive, things don't always go the way they are planned. If your goals are to become a faster runner, you will need a group to train with. Even better if they are faster, you are going to push them to be faster and in turn you will want to keep up, pushing yourself faster. One must know their limitations(helps to stay somewhat injury free) as well, so if you are relatively close in time to the group you train with, keep with them. I know most if this, as I have rediscovered running after about a 20 year lay-off(dang I became a master)and the goals I want to reach, I can't accomplish unless I have a group to go with.
I am old school when it comes to running/training. Good pair of shoes, eat decent and train and the rewards will come.
You must love pain, if you are going to do a 50K a month after Boston. Good luck with that.
I am not a religious person by any means, but the quote on your page from Galations, so true!
Take care and good luck,
Rob
OH GB, I'm glad you are feeling better, I'm sorry I missed the sad moment, just went back and read it now. I think we all have those moments. At least you don't regret any of the decisions you've made and feel like you've made them for the right reasons.
I can hardly imagine girls training faster and making you feel bad but I guess this can happen to just about anyone too. It's so hard for me to be SO dang slow, but you have to think about why you do it, why love it.
I think the friends will come, I could tell right away the kind of person you are. Give it up to God, ask for some friends, and he will provide for your spirit. I wish I were there. I'm not running with you anytime soon :D, but I'd love to know you for real.
Hang in there. We all think you are just amazing.
Hey GB. Hope you know that you are very inspiring to everyone out there (especially me). Keep your head up and the ugly clouds will soon pass.
Let me know if you decide to do the Ohlone 50k. I think I'm gonna give it a try this year. It would be nice to have someone to pull me along.
wooo hooo another ultra runner is born. have fun at boston again and then go enjoy the trail and have a blast while finishing strong.
have fun
Wow, a 50K! I'll be interested to see what kind of changes you make to your training to prepare. That's awesome, GB! You are hardcore!
I'm sorry you are down--I hope things look up soon.
