Thursday Triple Play

I really enjoy training with Ali and Cheryl whenever my schedule permits. They push me to dig deep when I really don't want to. I think I'm a stronger runner when I do workouts mid-morning or over the lunch hour, and it really seems to "hurt" when I run the workouts at 5 a.m. Well, the workouts hurt all the time, they just hurt more when I'm still half asleep! They help me get past that hurt.

Anyway this morning we did the triple play: 3 miles marathon goal pace, 6 x 800s at cruise interval pace, 3 miles tempo pace. I started with a 2 mile warm up jog and strides with the gals and ended with a little over 3-1/4 mile cool down jog.

3 @ goal pace were 7:15/mile (that's the pace for a 3:10 marathon)
6 x 800s at 3:14, 3:15, 3:15, 3:14, 3:12, 3:12
3 @ tempo were an average 6:53/mile

On a non-running related but kind of running related note, I picked up a part time job working at my friend's running specialty store. I LOVE IT! I am learning so much about running shoes, how people run, athletic gear, etc., etc. I am also working more hours at my previous full time job, still as a reservist and that is making me very happy. Life is nice!

I am gearing up however for when the kids' dad leaves for Iraq. It still hasn't hit them. I know when it finally does, it will hit them hard. :( Thanks for all the kind thoughts and prayers!

Hey GB,

Just checking in from Korea. Great workout there this morning and as someone who does the majority of his workouts between 5 and 6:30 in the morning, I know how they can hurt doing them at that time but always feel better afterwards when I know my day is getting kickstarted this way. Great workout and congrat's on the job at the running specialy store! Take care!

Congrats on the new part-time job. I'd love to work in a running store. For that matter, I'd probably enjoy your reservist LE job too. :)

And nice workout again, GB. I'm happy when I get in ONE quality workout per week (plus a long run). I can't handle two.
