Round two of sickness has begun. Our 3 year old has had a temp of 103+ for the last 24 hours, green gunk draining out of his nose and is just not his energetic self. The doctor will see him tomorrow. I'm hoping that this doesn't spread to everyone else in the house... but you know how that goes.
In the meantime I'm tired of feeling those nagging little sore spots from running. If it's not one thing, it's another, and I'm so frustrated that I'm considering not running at all for at least a week. I took the weekend off and then ran yesterday. Felt great during the 5.5 mile run at a steady 8:00/mile pace, but as soon as I started the 6-8 x 100 meter striders after the run, the right butt started throbbing and it hurt to sit down, and then the sensation travelled down my right leg into my right inner ankle, where I'd had the posterior tibial tendon problems in the fall. Really? Ugh. This just sucks. I only did 2 striders and then called it quits.
I'm doing my balance exercises, hurdle drills, myrtl exercises, etc., etc. My balance does feel better and my ankles stronger... but everything still nags me. WTH?
Oh well, enough whining. I'm heading out for a long bike ride.
Other updates: the track team won its first dual meet last week against a main 'rival,' and several school records were broken! I am so happy for these kids and it's great to be part of the coaching team. We have another meet on Wednesday and I hope I don't have to work the meet sick.
And the Aggies won the team titles (for men and women) at the 12K Across the Bay. I was not a point scorer, but it's still great to see the victories!
Memorial service for the fallen Oakland PD officers this Friday. I really hate that this is even happening. My emotions are running the gamut from heartbreak to disgust and anger. Please keep these officers and the families they leave behind in your prayers.

Aw, sorry for the little sickie, hope he gets better real fast.
Also very sorry for the big girl of the house, wish you weren't having these niggles and ouchies. A whole week off seems like a lot though, maybe just running 3 easy days for the next week would do it. Whatever you decide, I hope you're feeling 100% asap.
My thoughts go out to the officers and their families. Such a tragic situation.
So sorry about the sick kiddo and your sore legs. The situation in Oakland sure puts our problems in perspective though. Take it easy and rest up and continue being a wonderful mummy. :)
I'm so sorry for the loss of dear ones. I used to date a policeman, so I know the heartache that is associated w/ the loss. It is never easy.
GB, I am glad to read that you are moving to cross training when you feel something weird going on (like upcoming injury). I think that mindset will keep you running strong for a long while. Hang in there!
Sorry to hear about your sick child. I have a 3 year old as well, and it's hard to see them so low in spirits.
I just reluctantly took 2 weeks to heal a foot injury and am just getting back. The rest was great for my legs and I'm looking to get back to training hard again. Make sure to listen to your body and get lots of rest.
I have prayed for the families of the fallen officers. May God give them His abundant grace and peace.
I've also prayed for your child and for you.
Know that you are loved,

Staying motivated under those stresses can definitely be hard. Good to cycle instead of pushing through and adding to an injury. Take care and give the little guy a hug from all of us here in the blogosphere. Hope he feels better soon.
Sis,
I hear you about the nagging little injuries. I ran 4.5 miles last week, 1st run after Shamrock, and my entire lower half was dead! Everything hurt. I couldn't wait for the run to end. Haven't ran a lick this week, but I'm also traveling.
Del Oro track is going well! Check this out, we have the state's #1 girl pole vaulter, she's gone 12'4 already...wow! Soph too. I think I'll have two boys over 20 ft in the LJ and over 40 in the TJ. I've got some young girls that will hopefully hit in the 30's for the TJ and in 15+ in LJ. There are only 6 seniors on the entire team of 130.
I ran into Leo Sacramento at a track meet. He looks the same and is still coaching jumpers obviously. Hope you and the little guy feel better!
OPD...shocked. Prayers!
Sounds like you need some time for recovery before hitting it hard again. The butt pain could be piriformis related and can put pressure on the sciatic nerve, hence pain down the leg. Slower running should be possible while it's healing. But taking time off to allow recovery and adaptation to all this hard training might be a good idea. What does your coach say? If you don't have any races scheduled or contemplated for a bit, maybe the best thing you can do for yourself is ease up, following your intuition as you described.
Sorry to hear about the little one's illness. Hope you don't get it too!

Boo injuries. My damn calf has been a constant problem for me over the last month and a half.
